How does Global Selling work?

After deciding where to sell, you’ll follow a few basic steps to get started:
  1. Select the products you want to sell in each country.
  2. Complete requirements for taxes, regulations, compliance, safety, and listing.
  3. List your products in each country.
  4. Ship inventory and fulfill customer orders.
  5. Manage and automate your global business with Amazon tools and programs.

Step 1: Create your selling accounts

To sell in the US and other countries, you’ll need a Professional North America and Brazil unified account, which you can use to sell in the US, plus Canada, Mexico, and Brazil. If you want to sell in Europe, the Asia-Pacific, or the Middle East and North Africa, you’ll also need additional regional or country-specific accounts.

  • If you want to sell in the Americas, plus Europe, the Asia-Pacific, or the Middle East and North Africa, first create a North America and Brazil unified account. Then create a regional Europe account and country-specific accounts for India, Japan, Australia, Singapore, the United Arab Emirate, Saudi Arabia, and Egypt.
Seller registration
Before creating a selling account, make sure you understand registration requirements for the relevant region or country. You can use our step-by-step registration guide to complete the process.
Language considerations
Product listings need to appear in local languages. You can simplify translation for your product detail pages using the Build International Listings tool:
  • If you’re creating a new product detail page, in many cases it will be automatically translated into the local language. If your product page isn’t automatically translated, you can use our Service Provider Network to find a translation provider.
You’re also required to provide customer support in local languages:
Getting paid
You can use the Amazon Currency Converter to have proceeds from your sales in other countries deposited to a bank account based in the US.

You can also use a local bank account as your deposit method for sales in another country. For example, you could use a bank located in Germany for sales on Amazon.de. Before opening a bank account in another country, we recommend consulting your legal, tax, and banking advisors as you may need to create a legal business entity in that country.

Step 2: Select your products

Explore Amazon product categories in each country, then select the products you want to sell. You can use the Best Sellers lists in the relevant Amazon store to understand which products might be popular. For example, try exploring Best Sellers on Amazon.co.jp if you’re planning to sell in Japan.

If a product is part of a brand enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry, your ability to list and sell it in an Amazon store may depend on your relationship with the brand.
Product categories
Amazon product categories can vary by country. You should review categories for each country you plan to sell in:
Note: While some of our categories are open to all sellers, some require a Professional selling plan, some require approval from Amazon, and some can’t be sold by third-party sellers.
Branded products
If you’re new to Amazon and are the rights owner for an eligible brand, we recommend enrolling it in Amazon Brand Registry before you list your products in the US and other global Amazon stores. Brand Registry is free and provides sellers with a suite additional selling benefits and protection tools, including A+ Content, Brand Analytics, and Manage Your Experiments.

After a trademark from a single country has been approved by Brand Registry, you’ll have a global account that can be used for every Amazon store worldwide.

If a product is part of a brand enrolled in Amazon Brand Registry, only a brand representative or reseller authorized by the brand can add it to the Amazon catalog using our standard listing processes (login required). After a product associated with an enrolled brand is added to the Amazon catalog, others sellers can match offers to it. They may need to secure approval for the brand before doing so.

Step 3: Complete requirements

Review taxes and regulations in each country you want to sell in. You should also review and complete requirements for product compliance, safety, and listing in each country.

Step 4: List your products

In most cases, you’ll list products in our US store first, then cross-list to other global Amazon stores.

Already selling on Amazon.com?

Use the Build International Listings tool to cross-list your products in global Amazon stores. You can use Build International Listings to synchronize your prices across stores. In many cases, the tool will also automatically translate new listings into the local language.
New to Amazon?

List your products in our US store first by matching offers to existing product detail pages or creating new pages. Then you can use Build International Listings to cross-list in other Amazon stores.
Pricing considerations
If you already sell on Amazon.com and use the Build International Listings tool to list products in other global Amazon stores, your prices will be synchronized between stores based on your US prices and pricing rules. Build International Listings also adjusts prices periodically to reflect currency conversion fluctuations in the other countries.

You can also create separate listings and set distinct prices in each Amazon store using our standard listing processes. If you don’t synchronize your prices across stores, keep the following consideration in mind as you set prices for each country:
  • Shipping and return costs if you fulfill international orders directly
  • Costs for customer service if you fulfill international orders directly, including costs for language support, if necessary
  • Shipping costs if you send inventory to Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) in other countries
  • Conversion costs associated with getting paid in your local currency
  • Taxes and duties
Customer product reviews
If you already sell with Amazon, in many cases your customer product reviews will be carried over to other global stores and automatically translated.

Step 5: Ship inventory and fulfill orders

You have two basic options when it comes to getting global customers their stuff: Fulfilled by Amazon (FBA) and Fulfilled by Merchant.

Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA)

Use specialty programs through Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) to reach global customers in ways that work best for your business. For each program, FBA takes care of picking, packing, shipping, returns, and customer service.
FBA Export

FBA Export lets you reach global customers shopping on Amazon.com. Customers will be able to purchase your export-eligible products stored in US fulfillment centers. At checkout, they’ll see a price that includes international shipping and an import fee. We’ll ship to them at no additional cost to you.

Remote Fulfillment with FBA

Remote Fulfillment with FBA lets you reach customers in Canada, Mexico, and Brazil shopping on Amazon.ca, Amazon.com.mx, and Amazon.com.br. Customers will be able to purchase your export-eligible products stored in US fulfillment centers. At checkout, they’ll see a price that includes an estimate for import duties, taxes, and fees. We’ll ship to them at no additional cost to you.

FBA worldwide

Reach customers in other countries shopping in global Amazon stores by exporting your inventory to Amazon fulfillment centers in those countries. You’ll select the relevant country in the Send to Amazon workflow.

If you use our Pan-European FBA program, you can export inventory to a single EU country and have Amazon automatically distribute units to other EU countries to help meet customer demand.

Fulfilled by Merchant

Ship orders to customers directly using a suite of solutions we call Fulfilled by Merchant. You can use our Service Provider Network to connect with Amazon-vetted providers who offer discounted rates on global shipping.
Considerations for FBA worldwide
When you export inventory to Amazon fulfillment centers in other countries, you may want to handle some or all of the obligations in the import and export process yourself. You can also hire a logistics provider like a customs broker or a freight forwarder, who may have more expertise and time to ensure your inventory is transported in a timely and secure way. You must engage all logistics providers directly.

When sending inventory to Amazon fulfillment centers in other countries, you or your provider must act as the exporter of record and importer of record and must comply with all laws and regulations in both countries. You may also be subject to customs duties, import taxes, and fees in the destination country. Amazon will not be responsible for any customs duties and taxes associated with FBA inventory. Any shipments arriving at an Amazon fulfillment center with customs duty charges due will be returned to the sender.
Considerations for Fulfilled by Merchant
To ship customer orders internationally, you’ll start by selecting a carrier like UPS, FedEx, or USPS. You’ll act as the exporter of record and will want to clearly communicate shipping times and fees, as well as relevant duties and taxes.

International shipping fees can be considerably higher than domestic fees and vary based on several factors, including the following:
  • Package dimensions and weight
  • Delivery time
  • Where orders are being shipped to and from
  • Duties and taxes
